Latest VBS arrests welcomed – ActionSA Limpopo

Two ANC govt officials appeared in court on charges of corruption, money laundering and contravention of two acts

ActionSA welcomes latest VBS arrests

23 November 2022

It is with extreme elation that ActionSA in Limpopo welcomes the arrest of the ANC Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality and former Municipal Manager of Elias Motsoaledi, who were arrested this morning in Groblersdal, in connection with the VBS scandal.

We look forward to more arrests in this VBS saga that robbed so many of their hard-earned money. Particularly the vulnerable and the elderly.

The two ANC government officials appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on charges of corruption, money laundering and contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) as well as the Banks Act.

The arrest was a result of an ongoing investigation into the VBS Mutual Bank investments that were conducted by municipalities.

The former Municipal Manager is said to have been instrumental in investing R190 million in municipal funds into the VBS Mutual Bank wherein the Mayor received over R300 000 in gratification which included cash, accommodation and flight tickets.

These, according to a South African Police Services statement, were channelled through a company belonging to her children.

Despite the ANC's vehement stance to continue protecting and endorsing top-ranking officials, we are confident the likes of Florence Radzilani and Nakedi Sibanda will get their day to account for their deeds for their part in the VBS scandal.

We commend the Hawks Special Investigation Unit for not relenting in their pursuit of justice.

This arrest will definitely restore hope among the people of Limpopo in the justice system, especially the vulnerable victims who lost their pensions to the looters.
