Daily Sun (August 25 2015) - TOO OFTEN the cops are on the receiving end when confronted by armed thugs – but this time the cops turned the tables on their
attackers.

One thug found himself handcuffed on the way to the police station . . .

ANOTHER LAY DEAD ON THE COLD, HARD CONCRETE FLOOR.

The suspected cop killer was shot dead after a shoot-out in Bez Valley, Joburg yesterday morning. According to police, the suspect had shot and killed police Warrant Officer Moses Mosekwa in Hillbrow, Joburg on Saturday. Two suspects were arrested at the scene but one of them was released.

The second suspect was taken to Hillbrow Police Station. Mosekwa’s stolen police firearm was also recovered. Cops said Mosekwa and a colleague were on normal patrol duties on Saturday when they were stopped by a woman in Hillbrow at about 2am.

The woman complained to the cops about two suspects she claimed had tried to rob her. Mosekwa and his colleague, a 37-year-old sergeant, then approached the two suspects indicated by the woman. According to the police statement, the suspects refused to be searched and they started fighting with the officers.

During the brawl with the cops, one of the suspects disarmed Mosekwa and shot both the officers. Mosekwa was hit in his upper body and the sergeant suffered an injury to one of his hands. The sergeant was treated and is in a stable condition at a local hospital.

The police’s Brigadier Mashadi Selepe said police had made a major breakthrough regarding the murder of Constable NJ Buthelezi during a business robbery in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni last month. “Two of the three arrested suspects were linked to Buthelezi’s murder,” said Selepe. “The other suspect has been linked to a business robbery and to the murder of another officer, Constable FS Ledwaba, who was killed in March at Park Station while on duty.”

Selepe said the suspects who allegedly murdered Buthelezi appeared briefly in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Friday and were remanded in custody to 28 August. The suspect in Constable Ledwaba’s murder was set to appear in court yesterday on charges of murder and business robbery.
