The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal is thrilled to have once again registered a landslide victory in the by-elections held yesterday in ward 31 and 32 of Umhlathuze Municipality at Musa Dladla Region.

The vacancies were as results the resignation of the councillors and what is even more exiting is that the ANC has retained these wards with an even bigger majority in percentage and absolute terms compare to the August 03 Local Government Elections.

In Ward 31, ANC received 1 970, IFP 1049, NFP 52, EFF 35 votes while in Ward 32, ANC received 2 525, IFP 1061, NFP 296.

A decisive and overwhelming outcome of the by-elections is demonstration of the ANC`s continuing hegemony in those communities arising from the tangible difference our people can see in their lives as a result of policies.

Of the five by-elections held to-date in the province, the ANC has recovered a clean sweep trouncing all opposition combined.

This victory sends a clear message that the people have every confidence in the government led by the ANC because it delivers visible change in their lives and tirelessly work to improving their living condition.

In voting for the ANC, the people are guaranteed themselves best possible services and best governance of their municipalities. These results bode very well for the ANC as we prepare for an overwhelming victory in 2019 general elections. The ANC is thankful to each and every one of its volunteers who ensured the ANC remains with the people. The increasing majority in the two wards shows that the ANC understands the needs of the people.

In this province, the oppositions’ support is rupturing because the brand of politics they are selling is not people centered but rather self-serving.

“The results of the by-election affirm that ANC progressive policies continue to benefit the poorest of the poor rather than the rich. It also dismisses the unfounded allegations made in some quarters that the ANC has abandoned the working class and the poor. We congratulate the newly elected public representatives. We also want to direct the councillors to continue to work hard to realise the aspirations of our people,” said ANC Provincial Secretary Cde Super Zuma.

The ANC understands that the legacy of apartheid and its stubborn residual effects of poverty, unemployment, underdevelopment and inequality remain amongst many of our people.
