Maimane's call for ministerial recusals fanciful - Office of ANC Chief Whip

DA leader's demand based on neither the Constitution nor the rules of procedure

MAIMANE'S FANCIFUL CALLS REGARDING NO CONFIDENCE MOTION

23 February 2016

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip notes the fanciful calls by DA leader Mmusi Maimane for members of the executive to be recused from the debate on the motion of no confidence and for the voting on the Motion to be conducted through a secret ballot. Both his calls are based on neither the Constitution nor the rules of procedure that govern the proceedings of the National Assembly, and it would thus be difficult for anyone to dignify with serious consideration. We find the thinking behind such bizarre propositions illogical.

We however sympathise that his frustrations regarding failure to reign in the out-of-control racism within his party and desperation to divert attention to anything else might have such hallucinatory effects.
