Remembering Mzala - NUMSA

February 22 marks 21st anniversary of death of Jabulani Nxumalo

NUMSA REMEMBERS A REVOLUTIONARY & INTELLECTUAL PARAGON JABULANI NOBLEMAN ‘MZALA' NXUMALO

February 22, 2012

TODAY, Wednesday 22 February 2012, marks the 21st anniversary of the tragic loss of one of the revered, admired, loved, outstanding and vociferous Marxist intellectual par excellence ever produced by the African National Congress (ANC) and South African Communist Party (SACP), Comrade Jabulani Nobleman‘Mzala' Nxumalo.

Comrade Mzala, as he was affectionally known in the ranks of the movement, was a sharp theoretician trained and schooled in revolutionary and scientific theory of Marxism-Leninism as espoused by the ANC-led Alliance.

We are remembering Cde Mzala, a paragon of political correctness in theory and action, amidst the launch of NUMSA's National Political Commission (NPC) as part of strengthening both our ideological and political education capacity as a revolutionary trade union in order to advance and deepen a Socialist orientated National Democratic Revolution (NDR) with the working class at the helm.

This launch of our own NPC is a best tribute and honour for Comrade Mzala, as part of producing a mass layer of activists or trade unionists grounded in the scientific and revolutionary theory of Marxism-Leninism. This NPC which will be replicated in all our Regions and Locals are going to be sites of robust ideological and political training of our Shopstewards and members as part of strengthening the ANC-led Alliance components to always be imbued with correct theory and analysis of our own peculiar revolution.

We are convinced that Comrade Mzala, if he was alive today, he would have been disappointed to see some of his Comrades in our movement being religious and rented chief representatives of white monopoly capital within our ranks. We would have reminded some of his Comrades about the anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist posture of our National Democratic Revolution (NDR) and unapologetically remind our Comrades that Nationalisation is the policy position of the ANC as informed by the Freedom Charter and the Strategy and Tactics of the ANC of 1969 as adopted in Morogoro, Tanzania.

We are remembering Comrade Mzala in an epoch whereby Capitalism and its ideas are constantly in crisis and the conditions are so ripe and favourable to alter a new egalitarian society based on equality. This calls for the working class to build its hegemony in the battle of ideas, in order to contest the dominant ideas of the ruling class in favour of the ideas of the working class.

As part of contesting the dominant ideas of the ruling class, as NUMSA through our NPC, we will be working closely with the ANC, SACP and COSATU to massify and intensify ideological education amongst our members at the workplace and in our communities. This will be a befitting tribute to Cde Mzala's contribution to the ideological sphere and enrichment of our Marxism grounded on our peculiar South African conditions.
