Activists occupy SABC headquarters - R2K

Organisation says Motsoeneng must stop treating SABC as his own private entity to please those who are in power

R2K occupies SABC Headquarters!

27 July 2016

R2K activists are currently confronting SABC management and staging a sit-in at SABC Headquarters in Auckland Park.

This is in response to the SABC management’s decision to bar four journalists from entering their place of work. Yesterday, the Labour Court ruled in favour of the four journalists who were unlawfully dismissed for standing up against COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Judge Robert Le Grange said that Krivani Pillay, Suna Venter, Foeta Krige and Jacques Steenkamp are entitled to return to work. The judgement also states that the SABC is interdicted from proceeding with the the disciplinary hearings initiated against the journalists prior to their dismissals.

This morning, the journalists were informed that they are not allowed to enter the building because the SABC is appealing Judge Le Grange’s ruling. R2K strongly condemn the continuous victimization of staff who dare question unethical editorial decisions. SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng must stop treating the SABC as his own private entity to please those who are in power. It is a public broadcaster that is supposed to serve the people.
