ANC concerned about Rasool allegations

Jackson Mthembu appeals on media to allow due process to unfold

STATEMENT ANC NOTES MEDIA REPORTS ON ALLEGATIONS OF BRIBERY LEVELED AGAINST CDE EBRAHIM RASOOL

The ANC has noted and is concerned about allegations that have surfaced in the media that a particular journalist received money as a bribe from the former Premier of the Western Cape, cde Ebrahim Rasool, who is also a prominent leader of the ANC.

We nonetheless would like to appeal to all people in South Africa and the media in particular to allow due processes to unfold so that even those that are implicated in these allegations are afforded an opportunity to answer.

The ANC will then await such due processes before jumping to any conclusion on this matter. At any rate, decision-making within the structures of the ANC is not influenced by media reports.

Statement issued by Jackson Mthembu, ANC national spokesperson, June 30 2010
