ANC WCape not amused by deputy mayor's joke

Songezo Mjongile says Ray van Rooy of Berg River used official email to taunt ANC

ANC calls deputy mayor of Berg River to order

The ANC in the Western Cape is annoyed by the Berg River Municipality in Piketberg's deputy mayor who abuse council property for party political purposes to distribute insulting messages.

Mr. Ray van Rooy, Ward 4 councillor, who represents Cope in the DA coalition government in Piketberg, sent an inflaming E-mail from the municipal system to various political leaders.

"It is noticeable how certain political insults disguised as humour are spread by certain opposition parties in order to discredit and taint the ANC. It is regrettable that a senior political leader with the experience of Van Rooy does not distinguish better between official work during office hours and his political agenda," says the ANC in the Western Cape.

The ANC calls on the DA, who controls Berg River municipality, to clean up its act and exert better control over public property and its political partners who abuse taxpayer money for their own narrow agenda and to distribute crude cursing which is slanderous.

In his E-mail some ANC leaders where equated to excrement.

The ANC shall refrain from retaliatory defamatory insults and in the spirit of our Constitution affirm respect for the high office of the president and other leaders.
