ANC WELCOMES PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA’s ANNOUNCEMENT ON CABINET MINISTERS
The African National Congress welcomes and appreciate the announcement of a cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa as it shows his determination to continue on the path of hope and renewal.
The appointment of the three Ministers demonstrate commitment both in deeds and in action to intergenerational mix and experience.
The ANC congratulate all our comrades who have been deployed to fulfill various responsibilities and that it will be all hands on deck as we prepare for decisive victory in 2019.
We welcome the appointment of Cde Dr Siyabonga Cwele who is also a member of the ANC National Executive Committee as the New Minister of Home Affairs following the resignation of Minister Malusi Gigaba.
Dr Cwele previously served as Minister of State Security, and therefore in the Cabinet Cluster on Security, and brings the experience to tackle some urgent tasks in his new portfolio, such as the immigration issue and control of our ports of entry. Home Affairs is a department that touches the lives of every South African, from cradle to grave, including the critical issue of a consolidated population register, which assist with an inclusive voters' roll.
As the new Minister of Environmental Affairs Cde Nomvula Mokonyane who is also a member of the ANC National Working Committee brings with her a wealth of experience having previously served as the Premier of South African economic heartland, Gauteng as well as in her previous portfolios in the province and national Cabinet.
As Minister of Water Affairs and Sanitation Minister Mokonyane, formed a critical part of South Africa's delegations in global negotiations and treaties, including on climate change. She will find a solid foundation in the Ministry of Environment laid by the late cde Edna Molewa, and we urge her to continue to protect the Rhino, other endangered species and our precious heritage of biodiversity. Her portfolio also deals with the challenge of waste management and she should continue to advance the rights of waste-pickers, bringing them into the mainstream of the waste economy.
The consolidation of the two Ministries of Communications and Telecommunications into one Ministry of Communication will contribute towards greater alignment of policy and delivery, especially on the 4th Industrial Revolution and Digitization.
As the new Minister of Communications Cde Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams is a tried and tested young activist, having previously served as member of the ANC Youth League National Working Committee and currently as serving a member of the ANC Provincial Working Committee in the Eastern Cape and the ANC's Communications committee.
Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams served in different capacities in the National Assembly including as Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Service and that her elevation bears testimony to the confidence President Ramaphosa has in the young leaders of our country.
