Boycott Intercape bus services - Irvin Jim

Numsa calls on commuters to show solidarity with striking workers

NUMSA GENERAL SECRETARY CDE IRVIN JIM CALLS ON COMMUTERS TO BOYCOTT INTERCAPE BUS SERVICES

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) calls on commuters to pledge solidarity with the striking Intercape bus workers by boycotting all Intercape buses until the company concedes to the legitimate and genuine demands of workers.

Intercape workers belonging to Numsa have been on strike for more than six (6) weeks demanding the reinstatement of dismissed Hostesses. A series of meetings have been held with Intercape’s senior management in order to address our demands. These engagements have not yielded a desired or positive outcome, as anticipated by our members.

Currently our members are forging ahead with the strike action until their demands are met. We are emboldened that workers have remained united around their genuine demands. The strike was called by the union as a tactical tool to force Intercape management to address all the demands as presented by the union. The union remains committed in finding a lasting solution to the ongoing impasse. Our doors remain open to meet with Intercape’s management to resolve the strike.

As Numsa we are making a public call to all South Africans, especially studying youth and commuters in general, to support the ongoing strike by boycotting all Intercape busses. We strongly believe that a mass boycott will force Intercape to return to the negotiating table and present alternative proposals to settle the dispute.
