DA demands answers over waste of public funds – Zwakele Mncwango

Party says prayer day cancelled due to ANC branches snubbing event and president

DA demands answers on wasted public funds when Zuma’s prayer never happened

29 April 2016

The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu Natal notes with serious concern the extreme waste of public funds used in a failed National Prayer Event organised for President Jacob Zuma in eThekwini Municipality.

The DA will be submitting parliamentary questions to determine the cost of this cancelled event. We cannot allow another situation where taxpayer’s money is abused by the governing party to protect Zuma.

The DA reliably learned that today’s event had to be cancelled because the ANC branches had snubbed the event where Zuma was scheduled to be the main speaker. This is just another example of consistent infighting within the ANC.

This duck-and-dive attempt clearly shows that President Zuma is losing home support in KZN. The people have lost confidence in Zuma and his leadership. We want to remind President Zuma that it was him who said on Freedom Day that politicians should step down if people don’t want them anymore. We are waiting on him to lead by example.

The DA is extremely concerned that the ANC again failed to separate powers between party and the state, as no other political parties were invited to the so - called ‘national’ event.

The people of KZN must be careful when they make their mark on the 3rd of August. They cannot continue to trust an organisation that is troubled by internal fighting and pays no attention to the needs of the people. The people of the province need a change and the DA is the only party that will stop corruption, create jobs and deliver better services for all.
