DA wins ward off ANC in Nala Municipality - IEC

Party also holds another ward with reduced margin, ANC successfully defends two seats

Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 5 September 2018

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Free State, Gauteng and the North West provinces the African National Congress (ANC) retained two seats and the Democratic Alliance (DA) won one seat and retained one seat.

The new councillors for the DA are:

Bri-Anne Antoinette Masencamp in Ward 2 in Nala Municipality – FS185.  The party gained the seat that was previously won by the ANC in the 2016 Municipal Elections.  The party received 48.92% of the votes cast compared to 48.89% votes that the ANC received during the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 58.99%.

Andries Petrus Vrey in Ward 12 in Ngwathe Municipality – FS203.  The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a reduced margin of 62.00% of the votes cast compared to 74.40% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 44.11%.

The new councillors for the ANC are:

Zacharia Sekete Ntohla in Ward 37 in Tshwane Metro – TSH. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a reduced margin of 62.19% of the votes cast compared to 66.27% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 26.98%.

Rapule Elias Kwena in Ward 7 the Lekwa-Teemane Municipality – NW396. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a reduced margin of 74.48% of the votes cast compared to 79.07% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 49.50%.
