DA-led Joburg coalition passes pro-poor budget

12 June 2018

The DA commends Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba and the entire Joburg Council on passing a budget today that will work for the people, especially the poor.

The DA, IFP, ACDP, UDM, COPE and VF+, with the support of the EFF, as well as the AIC, passed the pro-poor budget so that the people of Joburg can continue to see real change.

Multiparty and coalition government is not always easy, as we must find middle ground among a diversity of ideas, with the mission of always putting the people first. With that, thank you to our coalition partners, the IFP, ACDP, UDM, COPE and the VF+ for their development and support for this budget. We also thank the EFF for supporting this budget.

We welcome the progress that we are making together, in the interest of the people. We thank the political parties for their robust engagement with this budget. Together, we have ensured that we are truly pro-poor.

Thank you to the people of the City of Johannesburg for their engagement during the IDP outreach process. Over 9500 residents formed part of the process, with the City receiving close to 3500 written and electronic submissions.

It is now time to get to work, serving the people of Joburg. Undoing the ANC’s legacy of maladministration is not an easy task but if we work together, we will achieve it. The DA understands that it is taking time but are working hard to bring about the change that the people of Joburg deserve and have called for on August 3, 2016.

The DA remains committed to bringing change that creates order and builds one South Africa for all.
