Danny Jordaan will be a part-time Mayor - Athol Trollip

DA MP says SAFA President is going to have to perform two full-time jobs in two different cities at the same time

Danny Jordaan will be a part-time Mayor

20 May 2015

Danny Jordaan will be nothing more than a part-time Mayor, bringing less than half his attention to Nelson Mandela Bay.

Jordaan’s confirmation that he will not step down from his SAFA presidency job in Johannesburg means he will have two full-time jobs in two different cities at the same time.

Jordaan will be an Eastern Cape Mayor, with a business base in Johannesburg.

Even if he is only in Port Elizabeth twice a week he will collectively spend an entire day per week just in the air and in transit.

Our Metro is in desperate need of a committed, hard-working Mayor, not a part-time locum who jets in and jets out.

We need a Mayor who is on the ground, among our communities, personally meeting our neglected residents, in this time of a governance crisis.

Jordaan is violating SAFA’s own constitution in taking up the NMB Mayoral office, by being a political public representative.  If he is happy to violate SAFA’s constitution, we cannot expect him to uphold South Africa’s Constitution as Mayor.

Jordaan’s ANC deployment as Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay is a gimmick aimed at scoring public relations points for the ANC.

There is no new face to the ANC that can repair the deeply-rooted governance failures in Nelson Mandela Bay; certainly not a part-time Mayor

In next year’s local government elections the DA is set on winning Nelson Mandela Bay and finally bringing good governance to this Metro, with a full-time Mayor.
