Fighters concerned about political violence spreading to once peaceful province

EFF member shot while handing out party flyers

Polokwane - Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt after an EFF member was shot and injured in Polokwane while handing out party flyers in the run-up to the upcoming local government elections.

Police said the suspect, in ANC regalia, approached the victim, started an argument and then shot her on the leg.

Captain Ntobeng Phala said they were investigating an attempted murder case.

"We know the suspect," Phala said.

The EFF said it was not intimidated but concerned about political violence spreading to the province.

Political intolerance

EFF MPL and provincial spokesman Jossy Buthane said they were disappointed that the once peaceful province was now falling into the "intolerance provinces list".

Buthane said the ANC in the province must deal with the "political intolerance cancer" before it is too late.

"If this is going to be the behaviour; it means ANC is opening up to political intolerance," said Buthane

Buthane said the wounded member was discharged from hospital on Wednesday morning.

ANC spokesperson Aluwani Netsianda said the party would wait for the police to investigate.

"There is currently no evidence of such, let's allow law enforcement agencies to investigate and pronounce before we point fingers for cheap political gains," said Netsianda.
