EFF wants answers about Van Rooyen and Zwane visit to Dubai

Party asks what reason of visit was and if Zuma or Guptas were present

EFF in Parliament has written to the Ministers Van Rooyen and Zwane about their trip to Dubai

12 April 2016

The EFF has written to the Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Des van Rooye, and to the Minister of Mineral Resources Msebenzi Zwane regarding their trip to Dubai in December last year (2015). The Chief Whip and Deputy President of the EFF has asked them to answer two questions, and these are:

(1) Was the Minister in Dubai anytime in December 2015?

(2) If yes, what was the purpose of the trip and was President Jacob Zuma and any member of the Gupta family present in any of his meetings in there?

The Chief Whip further reminded them that in keeping with their constitutional duties they are to answer truthfully. If they mislead parliament, they will be in violation of the constitution. We want to publicly state that these questions have been posed to the ministers on the 11 April 2016 already because it is a matter of public interest to know if they have conducted themselves in the best interest of the public offices they hold. Even on a private trip, the public deserves to know if they did not form part of any business meetings. If so, even if these business interests were private, they are legally compelled to declare them, precisely so that the public can discover if there is no conflict of interest in relation to the public offices they occupy.
