Justice Moseneke made invaluable contribution to country – Glynnis Breytenbach

DA says retiring judge will leave enormous space in our Judiciary

DA thanks Justice Moseneke for his invaluable contribution to constitutional democracy

20 May 2016

Deputy Chief Justice, Dikgang Moseneke, retires today as a Justice of the Constitutional Court after a lifetime of service to the South African public, the legal profession and our Constitutional democracy.

That President Jacob Zuma and Justice Minister, Mike Masutha, are reportedly not present at the ceremonial court session is emblematic of the contempt the ANC government has displayed for the Judiciary in recent times.

Justice Moseneke will leave an enormous space in our Judiciary which will be very hard if not impossible to fill. He has always been an incalculable asset to both the Judiciary and the legal profession.

He has served with distinction in every capacity that has been asked of him, starting with an unwavering commitment in his teenage years to a just and fair society and the Rule of Law. This commitment has been carried through throughout his professional life and has been the hallmark of his involvement in all aspects of the legal profession.

Justice Moseneke is a man among men, admired and deeply respected by all who know him personally and professionally. This includes those who know him only through his considerable work on the Constitutional Court Bench.

The Democratic Alliance wishes Justice Moseneke well in his future endeavours and thanks him for an invaluable contribution to the establishment and development of our Constitutional democracy.
