Khotso Khumalo new Tlokwe Mayor - SACP JB Marks District

Party says deployment heralds a new era of stability and progress, after the DA's failed counter-revolutionary offensive

SACP Congratulates Comrade Khotso Khumalo on his Election as New Executive Mayor of Tlokwe

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the JB Marks District of the North West salutes comrade Khotso Khumalo on his election to the key position as executive mayor of the Tlokwe municipality in Potchefstroom during a special council meeting held yesterday (Monday).

Khumalo's fitting deployment heralds a new era of stability and progress for a municipality that has been under siege and at the receiving end of a destructive and counter-revolutionary offensive by the reactionary DA which sought to hijack and usurp Tlokwe to advance their neo-liberal agenda.

The SACP as part of the ANC-led alliance prides itself of the role that communists and workers have played in campaigning rigorously for the ultimate victory of the ANC in the by-elections held in six wards in last month. Thanks to the confidence and trust of the people of Tlokwe in the ANC, the municipality is now firmly back in the hands of our beloved liberation movement.

In Khotso Khumalo, the people of Tlokwe have a committed, loyal and selfless servant of the masses and a cadre of the movement who went through the ranks from the progressive student and youth movements of the 1980s later occupying leading positions in the ANC Youth League and the ANC mother body. As a former senior MP, spokesperson and head of communication in the office of the premier of the North West, comrade Khumalo brings a wealth of experience, skill and wisdom both as a politician and as a state functionary. This rich background will certainly stand him in good stead in his new role as executive mayor.

The SACP wishes the new mayor Cde Khotso success and calls on all councilors, municipal staff, political parties and civil society groups and the entire residents of Tlokwe to rally behind him and lend their full support as he embarks on his mammoth task of taking the city forward in terms of socio-economic development and service delivery as well as the urgent task of normalizing the municipality.
