Minorities absenting themselves from 'black' events - ANC

Ruling party says failure to attend national celebrations creates distance

ANC SALUTES THE YOUTH OF SOUTH AFRICA ON THE OCCASION OF CELEBRATING THE NATIONAL YOUTH DAY

The ANC salutes the youth of South Africa on the occasion of celebrating the National Youth Day today.
This marks the commitment of the youth in ensuring that ills of our past will never be repeated in our country.

This day must serve as a reminder to all South Africans that there is no government that will govern above the will of the people.

Let us use this day to recommit ourselves to the ideals of a united and better society.

On this vein, we call on all South Africans to take active interest in the project of building a single and non-racial society. To date, most minorities treat national days as 'black' events which unfortunately creates a distance in forging national cohesion.

The continued distance between minorities and national events can only be interpreted as disagreeing with what these days represent.

The ANC also want to take this opportunity to wish the ANC Youth League well in their conference and deliberations as this will impact on the role of the youth in broader society.
