NW Legislature events a smokescreen to advance ANC election campaign – Jacqueline Theologo

DA says the ruling party knows they are losing support in the province and events are desperate attempts to gain favour from the people

NW Legislature events a smokescreen to advance ANC election campaign

28 July 2016

The DA is deeply concerned that the ANC is abusing state resources and public money to advance their election campaign just before voters head to the polls on 3 August.

All Legislative programmes have been closed since May. We were surprised to receive an invitation from the Speaker, Susan Dantjie, informing us of a series of events set to take place from today onwards.

The invite is nothing but a smokescreen to legitimise the use of public money to promote the ANC.

The events are conveniently hosted on the eve of elections and just when all the members of the opposition are scattered around the province, working and campaigning in their constituencies.

The venues for this events are also all conveniently set to take place in areas where the ANC has lost significant support or are marred by infighting and corruption.

A big legislature outreach event is scheduled to take place in the Lekwa Teemane Local Municipality, where many of ANC councillors recently defected from the party and have opted to run as independent candidates. The municipality has also been at the centre of a storm with allegations of maladministration and corruption.

Another event will take place in Marikana, Rustenburg, the same area where 27 miners were massacred. The ANC knows it faces the risk of losing this municipality and they are using the “Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal” event to garner support.

The ANC knows it is losing support across the province and these events are a desperate attempts to gain favour from the people of North West.

The people of this province are tired of the ANC’s lies and dirty tricks. They will vote for freedom, fairness and opportunity on 3 August.
