SAMWU praises Zuma's brave decision

Union says workers wouldn't have cooperated with Shiceka or Nkabinde given abuse of public funds

SAMWU welcomes sacking of Sicelo Shiceka and Gwen Mahlangu

The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) would like to welcome the brave decision by President Jacob Zuma to sack Sicelo Shiceka and Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde, after the Public Protector announced that these Ministers acted improperly. We expected nothing less from the President and he has displayed true leadership.

Since the Public Protector found that both Nkabinde and Shiceka acted unlawfully, the Union had called for them to be sacked. The Union views corruption as a cardinal sin in the workplace, we deal harshly with managers and or politicians that are involved in corruption.

Workers would have never been able to cooperate with theses Ministers, knowing that they abused public funds.

Minister Shiceka has been absent from duty for too long now. Local Government is in desperate need of decisive leadership, solutions to resolve complex social problems and a decent turnaround strategy, to help ensure that this sphere of Government delivers much needed services to communities and transforms the lives of people.

As the largest local Government Union, we look forward to working with Minister Richard Baloyi, to turn Local Government around.
