Children suffer when schools and libraries are vandalised, union federation says

COSATU North West perturbed by damage to public and private properties during service delivery protest

The Congress of South African Trade Union in the North West is concerned with the high increase of service delivery protests taking place in our communities.

Whilst all citizens have a right to air their views on various issues, COSATU North West is worried about the use of violent protest to address genuine community issues.

COSATU North West is perturbed by damages to public properties such as schools, libraries and halls which must be fully utilized by children for extra mural activities in communities.

COSATU North West has noted a developing trend of criminal activities disguised as service delivery protests or some narrow political ambitions associated with inciting communities to rebel unnecessarily with no engagement for solutions.

COSATU North West condemns all improper acts associated with violent service delivery protests.

COSATU support the community demands for genuine service delivery and such concerns must be attended by both government and the mining sectors in areas where communities are not benefiting from mining companies.

We call the protesters not to allow to be used, they must not allow being defocused, and they must allow children to go to schools freely

COSATU North West calls on government Departments to promptly respond to issues raised by communities and avoid unnecessary delays.

Lawlessness must never be promoted in communities.
