Tshwane DA ‘too white’ story non-factual – John Moodey

Gauteng leader says councillor was misquoted by journalist who wrote story for The Citizen newspaper

Tshwane DA ‘too white’ story non-factual

16 September 2017

The story reported in The Citizen newspaper today entitled ”Tshwane DA too white” is factually incorrect and distorts the reality of the work done by the DA in Tshwane.

Tshwane ward 92 councillor Abel Tau, who is standing for election as the regional chair in this coming weekend’s regional congress has confirmed to me that he was misquoted by the journalist who wrote the story.

Cllr. Tau states that he was misquoted when saying he was the only black African councillor in Tshwane.

There are over 30 black African DA councillors in the municipality, as well as Mayor Solly Msimanga and Speaker Katlego Mathebe.

50% of the City’s Mayoral Executive is black African.

Tau has indicated to me that he has requested a copy of the audio taped interview as he takes umbridge at the false reporting that distorts what he said.

He has also lodged a complaint with the Press Ombudsman for publishing non-factual information.

The DA believes in representing every South African regardless of race and strives to ensure that all our structure are reflective of the diverse demographics that make up our Nation.
