YCL NW wants Afrikaans banned from schools - FF+

Pieter Groenewald accuses Leauge of inciting racial hatred in province

YOUNG COMMUNIST LEAGUE INSTIGATING RACIAL HATRED IN NORTHWEST

"A memorandum which the Young Communist League of South Africa handed to the Provincial Education Department in Christiana on Friday (2010/ 01/17) smacks of racial hatred and ignorance of the Constitution of South Africa. To ask in the memorandum that Afrikaans should be banned from all public schools and that English should be made the language of instruction is a disregard for the right to mother tongue education as stipulated in the Constitution. Through this action the Young Communist League disregards all the other indigenous languages and promotes the language of colonialism. The Young Communist League is merely instigating racial hatred and creates polarization, just like Cosatu, in the Northwest," Mr. Pieter Groenewald (MP), the leader of the Freedom Front Plus in the Northwest and chief spokesperson on Police for the party says.

"It is also clear that it is the local branch of the Communist League, which is a small group and is not representative of the whole community. The memorandum was handed and directed to the Northwest Department of Education and has nothing to do with the Combined School Christiana. The Combined School Christiana adheres to and functions within all the stipulations of the Education Department regulations and delivers a high standard of education. The Young Communist League members should rather attend a workshop where they can be educated in the stipulations and functioning of the Constitution of South Africa," Groenewald said.
