Zimbabwe Ambassador must answer for violence – Stevens Mokgalapa

DA says SA's foreign policy should be underpinned by respect for human rights, our silence is tacit condonation

SA govt should summon Zimbabwe Ambassador to answer for violence on protesting citizens

11 July 2016

The DA has written to the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, to request that she summon the Zimbabwean Ambassador to South Africa, Mr Isaac Moyo, to answer for the use of violence against protesting citizens.

South Africa’s foreign policy should be underpinned by respect for human rights. Our government’s continued silence on recent developments is deafening and a tacit condonation of the oppression being witnessed north of the Limpopo river.

These developments in Zimbabwe cannot be ignored. It directly impacts on our country and should be a major agenda item for our government. It is high time that our Minister stop her ignorant ramblings and play the part of South Africa’s diplomat-in-chief by speaking up when it matters most, and defend human rights.
