ANCYL warns ABSA over supporting breakaway

Statement issued by the ANC Youth League November 4 2008

ANC YL SENDS A STRONG WARNING TO ABSA

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) sends a strong warning to ABSA. We are aware that Wendy Luhabe, the main funder of the political rebel group, led by her husband Mbhazima Shilowa and Patrick Lekota, is at the forefront of using ABSA platforms to mobilise and galvanise support for the rebel group. The Chairperson of ABSA, Gill Marcus is co-hosting a bogus special luncheon at Absa, which will be utilised to mobilise for the rebel political group.

ABSA should be come out very clear on its relations and engagement with political formations in South Africa, so that we can have a thorough understanding on what ABSA really represents.

The ANC YL would also like to call on the Minister of the Department of Trade and Industry to investigate if Wendy Luhabe is not abusing her position in the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to misdirect funds to the rebel political party.

The ANC YL will remain vigilant throughout the elections period to ensure free and fair elections.
