COSATU to support mass action - ANCYL

League says Federation a reliable ally in struggles of working class and the poor

ANC YOUTH LEAGUE WELCOMES COSATU'S SUPPORT FOR THE ECONOMIC FREEDOM YOUTH MASS ACTION:

The ANC Youth League welcomes COSATU's decision to support the Economic Freedom Youth Mass Action, which will happen on the 27th and 28th of October 2011 to the Chamber of Mines, Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Union Building. COSATU proves to the people of South Africa once again that the federation is a reliable ally in the struggles of the working class and the poor and will never compromise principle because of petty politics. The ANC Youth League will unapologetically fight side by side with workers until all objectives of the Freedom Charter are met.

The ANC Youth League calls on all other progressive formations and organisations in South Africa, particularly civil society formations, Non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, religious formations and all other organisations to join the ANC Youth League Economic Freedom Youth Mass Action. The demands for the mass action remain the following:

1. Nationalisation of Mines

2. Expropriation of land without compensation

3. Free Quality Education

4. Decent houses for the people

5. Eradication of Squatter Camps

6. Immediate Electrification of all formal and informal settlements

7. Provision of clean drinking water and sanitation

8. Banning of labour brokers

The ANC Youth League will be issuing regular updates on the preparations for the mass action and will indicate whenever there will be press conferences to update members of the media and public about the preparations. The mass action starts at the Bayers Naude Square and goes to the Chamber of Mines in Johannesburg, JSE in Sandton and to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to handover memorandums with the demands for economic freedom in our life.
