IPID arrests 8 cops in connection with death of Mido Macia

Directorate says murder suspects will be held in custody until they appear in court (March 1)

THE IPID HAS ARRESTED EIGHT (8) POLICEMEN FOR MURDER IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEATH OF DAVEYTON TAXI DRIVER, MR MIDO MACIA

PRETORIA - 01 March 2013 The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested 8 policemen in connection with the death of a 27 year old Mido Macia who died in police custody at the Daveyton Police Station on 26 February 2013. The suspects, two warrant officers and six constables were arrested today at the Benoni Police Station. 

The arrest follows an IPID investigation which started in the early hours of 27 February 2013. The IPID is committed to ensuring that the suspects are held accountable and brought before the courts. 

The suspects will appear at the Daveyton Magistrates Court on Monday, 04 March 2013. The suspects will remain in custody until they appear in court. 

The investigation continues.
