DA welcomes reinstatement of Mdluli charges
The DA welcomes the reinstatement of some of the charges against disgraced Crime Intelligence Head, Richard Mdluli.
We note with some concern, however, that the reinstated charges appear to be a bare minimum approach in order to meet the deadline of the Supreme Court of Appeal.
No mention is made of the initial murder charge and the fraud and corruption charges are also not dealt with in any significant fashion.
The Mdluli saga has compromised the integrity of a number of key state institutions and has left the reputation of the National Prosecuting Authority in tatters.
The apparent decision to have the fraud and corruption charges re-evaluated by a "panel of experienced prosecutors" remains a matter of concern.
