We'll pay our debts - Gauteng Health

Dept. commits itself to bringing relief to suppliers still waiting for payment (Nov. 23)

Department is committed to paying suppliers

23 Nov 2011

The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development has noted a statement issued earlier today by SAMED stating that we owe huge amounts of money to suppliers and we acknowledge these debts.

MEC Ntombi Mekgwe held a meeting with suppliers in September where she reiterated the Department's commitment to pay.

Yesterday, the Gauteng Department of Finance (GDF) announced that it has made more money available to us to pay debts.

GDF will identify possible under-spending which should be surrendered to the Provincial Revenue Fund for reallocation to Health to address accruals since the department was experiencing significant pressures in paying historical debts. The provincial government is of the view that this strategy will lead to full payment of accruals before this term of office comes to an ends.

As the department we are hopeful that through these additional funds and initiatives, we will be able to bring relief to suppliers.

We would like to reiterate that the department is fully aware and committed to meeting all its past and future obligations to suppliers.
