"Big dig for MK bones!" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story in SA's largest daily newspaper, March 13 2013

Daily Sun (March 13 2013) - THE FAMILIES of two missing MK cadres hope their 25-year wait for the truth will soon be over. They watched patiently yesterday as two graves were dug up at Soweto's Avalon Cemetery. THE GRAVES WERE THOUGHT TO CONTAIN THE REMAINS OF CORLETT "LOLO" SONO AND SIBONISO SHABALALA. Sono (21) and Shabalala (19) were MK couriers. They were reportedly last seen alive at ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's Soweto home.

Yesterday, the families waited four hours for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) team to uncover the bones. Forensic investigators and anthropologists of the missing people task team exhumed the two bodies, which were found in 1988 with many stab wounds in a field in Diepkloof extension. The bodies were buried as unidentified persons among paupers (poor people) in Avalon Cemetery. Madeleine Fullard, head of the NPA task team, said for 20 years the bodies of the missing MK men were thought to be at a mine dump in Soweto. See the Daily Sun mobi site for more...
