EFF STATEMENT OF ANC ABUSE OF STATE RESOURCES IN MARIKANA
07 January 2016
The EFF condemns ANC's abuse of state resources in desperation to find relevance in Marikana. The building and handing over of houses in Marikana by the Department of Human Settlement was turned into an ANC build up programme towards its rally. This leaves no difference between party and state, a phenomena characteristic of dictatorships and despotic governments.
This handing of houses is a desperate attempt by the ANC to find relevance in a community in which they have presided over a crime against humanity. It is an attempt to silence the legitimate cry of the Marikana workers for justice and compensation which government has failed to deliver on. To this day, the victims of the Marikana massacre are neglected by government; no one can say what is happening to the widow, orphans and the injured, if they have bread on the table, money to educate their children or if they had any Christmas at all.
The ANC government has once again colluded with Lonmin to silence and erase the memory of the Marikana massacre because the land upon which houses are built is also donated by Lonmin. The EFF knows that the very tender process toward building the houses has benefited ANC corrupt and politically connected ANC business people.
There is no amount of building houses that will erase the fact that those who presided over Marikana are still in government today. Cyril Ramaphosa, Nathi Mthethwa, and Suzan Shabangu were all rewarded with cabinet posts. The delivering of houses is clearly not genuine and it seeks to further mobilize the Marikana community against the victims of the massacre who are not even beneficiaries of the project.
