ANC can't fund education but spends R1bn on campaign – Malema

ANC can't fund education but spends R1bn on campaign - Malema

29 July 2016

Pretoria - The ANC failed to deliver free education due to a lack of money, but had R1 billion to spend on its election campaign, EFF leader Julius Malema said on Thursday.

"ANC used R1bn for elections, printing T-shirts and giving celebrities money while you don't have water," he told residents of Hammanskraal.

"They fail to give our children free education, but they give celebrities R1bn."

The ANC’s election campaign head, Nomvula Mokonyane, said the party had spent this amount on holding rallies, paying volunteers, and buying T-shirts, EWN reported last week.

Malema mocked some of the artists that had been endorsing the ANC and getting paid for it, including singer Kelly Khumalo.

"That Kelly Khumalo, before she tells us to vote for the ANC, she must tell us who killed our goalkeeper," Malema said to loud applause from the crowd.

Former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead at Khumalo's parental house in Vosloorus on October 26, 2014. He was dating Khumalo and they had a child together. The murder has still not been solved.

Malema added that some of the artists endorsing the ANC were singing songs that were no longer relevant.

"I don't remember Kelly Khumalo's hit song. Arthur Mafokate is singing expired songs," he said, referring to the kwaito musician.
