ANC NWC STATEMENT - 02 AUGUST 2010
The ANC National Working Committee (NWC) met on Monday, 02 August 2010. The meeting focused on the challenges facing the ANC YL in a number of provinces, with particular focus on the Eastern Cape and the Masoga case in Limpopo. The NWC characterised the situation as the collapse of discipline in the structures of the movement. The NWC took the following decisions in this regard:
- Cases of ill-discipline must be addressed as close as possible to the level of contravention.
- All the provinces of the ANC must take an active role in re-instilling discipline in the structures of the movement.
- The NWC re-affirmed that it is a dismissible offence, in the ANC, to take the ANC to court when all the organisational processes have not been exhausted. Wherein individuals go to courts beforehand, they should be summarily suspended before any considerations are made.
- The NEC of 12-14 March 2010 decided that all public spats must come to an end and attacking any leader of the movement in public must have consequences
- To attend to the current cases on the Eastern Cape and Limpopo, the NWC put together a team lead by the ANC Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe. This team was given a week to finalise all these cases so that stability can return to the ANC YL.
- Those who have announced their intention to take cases to court are warned to desist from that ill-advised action.
- All the provincial organs are directed to engage ANC YL structures in their respective provinces and intervene decisively when the need arises.
- We must provide avenues for members of the ANC to channel their grievances and take tough action when these structures are undermined.
- No structure of the ANC is expected to comment further on this matter.
