ANC commiserates with death of tourist on honeymoon
The ANC in the Western Cape wishes to express its condolences and anger with the murder of the British tourist on her second week of a honeymoon in South Africa.
"The ANC extends a hand of friendship to commiserate with the surviving Mr. Shrien Dewani, the bereaved husband, family and friends of the late 28-year old tourist Anni Dewani of Bristol. Their high-jacking in a Cape Town township is lamented by all ANC and right-thinking South Africans.
"The ANC condemns the violent attack and killing of Dewani or any other person. The ANC does not stand for violence. In essence South Africa is not a violent country. Violent elements should be detained and dealt with the full blow of the law.
"As a nation we are opposed to the acts of such criminals. We refuse to be used by or surrender to criminals. The ANC appeals on all people to assist the police to identify and take these murderers into custody.
"The ANC also wants to dispel the notion of no-go areas in the country. The whole of South Africa appeals to tourists and therefore should be tourist friendly areas and destinations. People who want to declare certain areas as unsafe or not fit to visit, has ulterior motives. Instead of helping to make all safer and easier to visit areas, these people prefer to be rumour mongers and alarmists," says the ANC.
