ANC WELCOMES HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION FINDING ON TOILETS IN KHAYELITSHA
‘The African National Congress (ANC) has been vindicated by the recent finding of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) that the Democratic Alliance-led City of Cape Town, violated the rights of Khayelitsha residents when erecting toilets without enclosures.
We have always maintained that the introduction of toilets without enclosures in Khayelitsha, points to the DA's disrespect and disregard for the dignity of our people - particularly Africans - in the Western Cape. The DA's use of corrugated iron structures also resemble the implementation of outdated apartheid era practices and policies, which dehumanised the majority of South Africans.
The HRC's order that the City of Cape Town reinstall the 51 toilets removed a week ago, also ordering the council to build brick and mortar enclosures is what the ANC has been calling for. We warmly welcome the HRC order and call on the DA to comply with without delay, to avert the continued strife and suffering of residents in the area.
The situation in the Western Cape clearly demonstrates that the DA is a party bent on perpetuating race polarisation in the province. The toilets saga has exposed the DA's true colours and what they stand for - a total disregard for the human rights and welfare of the people of the Western Cape.
