ANCWL condemns demolition of homes in Lenasia

League says Gauteng govt should've pursued a more humane solution

RE: ANCWL SUPPORTS THE PEOPLE OF LENASIA

The ANCWL condemns in the strongest possible terms the demolishing of people's homes in Lenasia. This destruction of people's homes cannot be justified in a humane society (see report).

ANCWL President, Angie Motshekga has engaged with ANCWL NEC member, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane who explained that all legal processes have been followed. However the Women's League believes, despite the legal processes undertaken a more humane solution needs to be found to deal with the situation. Reducing people's homes to rubble and leaving families homeless is cruel.

The ANCWL wants the demolishing to stop and a more human resolution found.

The ANCWL will be getting in touch with the Human Rights Commission and we will be supporting them in their urgent court interdict application to stop this process, and we will join other civic organisations to protect the homes of other families' houses which have been earmarked for demolition.

The President of the Women's League has further undertaken to hold meetings with the different stakeholders to stop this demolishing of houses continuing and find a solution to this impasse.
