ANCYL Mpum backs 'automatic expulsion' plans

Provincial league says it is fully behind Premier David Mabuza

ANC YOUTH LEAGUE MPUMALANGA POST PROVINCIAL CONGRESS STATEMENT

The African National Congress Mpumalanga Provincial Congress which happened in Neslpruit on the 29th and 30th of July 2010 was a great success. The Provincial Congress was convened with more than 70% of branches of the ANC Youth League in good standing, meaning that the ANC Youth League exists in more than 70% of all Municipalities' wards in the Mpumalanga. Congress appreciated that the ANC Youth League in the Province has grown both in quantity and quality. Mpumalanga has 40 more branches as compared to the ones the province had in the last provincial congress.

Amongst the many resolutions taken, the Provincial Congress highlighted the following key issues:

  • Establishment of the University in Mpumalanga-Congress resolved to intensify the campaign for a University to be established in the province of Mpumalanga. We appreciate the work that has been done thus far by the Provincial government and call on the national government to do more work to make sure that Mpumalanga has a University before the current term of National government comes to end in 2014.
  • Nationalisation of Mines-The ANC Youth League in the Province will continue to lobby for the nationalisation of Mines and will engage and persuade all branches of the ANC in the Province to adopt the ANC Youth League Draft resolution on Nationalisation of Mines.
  • Court Actions against the organisation-Congress endorsed the principle that all members of the ANC Youth League who take the organisation to Court should be automatically expelled.
  • Recognition of Sam Nzima-Congress resolved that the ANC Youth League in the Province should call for the recognition of Sam Nzima, the Photographer of the famous June 16 1976 picture of Hector Petersen. Sam Nzima was not just a photographer for the newspapers, he was a campaigner against apartheid repression and the images he took alerted not only South Africa, but the entire world of the brutality of the apartheid regime. The Provincial and National Government should honour his great contribution.
  • Attacks on the Chairperson of the ANC, Comrade David Mabuza-The ANC Youth League in Mpumalanga is fully behind the Chairperson of the ANC and the entire leadership of the ANC in the Province. The rumours and lies that are spread about him will never shake us, because we are aware that those who do so are informed by jealousy.
  • President Julius Malema for 2nd term-The ANC Youth League in Mpumalanga is totally in support of ANC Youth League President Julius Malema, and will support his re-election as President of the ANC Youth League in 2011. President Julius "Blockbuster" Malema will lead the ANC Youth League towards the centenary of the ANC in 2012 and will best represent what the youth of South Africa aspire.

Congress nominated and elected the following Comrades for the top five officials without contestation:

  • Chairperson: Kgotso Motloung
  • Deputy Chairperson: Chris Nkuna
  • Secretary: Johan Mkhatshwa
  • Deputy Secretary: Themba Masombuka
  • Treasurer: Lerato Theko

The Provincial Congress further elected 20 additional members into the Provincial Executive Committee, which was immediately given the responsibility to prepare branches for the National General Council in August 2010.
