Bara ops cancelled as Aircon fails - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says surgeons unable to operate in 19 of 27 theatres because of high temperatures

MORE BARA OPS CANCELLED AS AIRCON FAILS

Operations were cancelled this past weekend at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital due to broken air-conditioners.

Surgeons were unable to operate at 19 of the 27 theatres because of high temperatures. The affected theatres included the two emergency theatres at the maternity unit.

The lives of emergency patients were put in danger over the weekend but it's lucky that this aircon failure did not happen during the week, otherwise a lot of scheduled ops would have had to be cancelled.

It is inexcusable that air-conditioners have failed yet again at this troubled hospital. Why can't they get proper maintenance done? This follows generators that failed to work after a power failure last month.

The Gauteng Health Department must stop denying the deep-rooted problems at Bara, and fix up its equipment problems once and for all.
