Cabinet to gazette Gauteng toll tariffs

30 day period for public comment launched, govt will publish final position 14 days later

Statement on Gauteng freeway improvement project

25 Oct 2012

Following a briefing yesterday to Cabinet by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP), Cabinet has approved the gazetting of terms and conditions - including updated tariffs - that will apply to users of the toll road network in Gauteng.

This launches a 30-day period for public comment, allowing people beyond those groups with whom the Inter-Ministerial Committee has formally consulted to make their input.

Government will, at the end of 30 days, incorporate this round of public comment and publish its final position after a further 14 days. A media briefing will be held tomorrow for further clarity on the matter.

In the meantime, Cabinet welcomes the convergence of thinking on some areas between government and the majority of the stakeholders and pays tribute to the leadership demonstrated by the delegations that met government.
