Agang SA statement on the passing of Colin Eglin
CAPE TOWN, Saturday, 30th November 2013: "The death of Colin Eglin, a former leader of the opposition in Parliament for many years, and who was at the forefront of the struggle against apartheid, is sad news for the country", said Dr Mamphela Ramphele, leader of Agang SA.
"He was a visionary who never gave up on the hope for freedom, dignity and equality for all South Africans during the dark days of apartheid - and he was a close friend.
"I admire the way in which he doggedly championed the rights for all citizens from within the compromised former parliamentary system, and for the way in which he helped to draft our extraordinary constitution at the end of apartheid.
"Colin Eglin was an extraordinary man, and his calibre of leadership is sorely lacking in the current government.
"I hope his legacy will be remembered for a long time. We need principled leaders like him, who are committed to clean accountable, government and good government that looks after the constitutional rights of all."
