Solidarity to bring an application for contempt of court against Julius Malema
28 April 2015
The Solidarity Movement will this week bring an application for contempt of court against Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) leader Julius Malema. This comes after Malema, in defiance of a prohibitory court order, incited students of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) last Friday to remove all apartheid symbols.
On 21 April the Solidarity Movement approached the court with an urgent application against the EFF after the party had encouraged its members and supporters to remove statues, including those that represent Afrikaner history and culture. The court granted the application and prohibited the EFF and its leadership to further incite any member of the public to remove, vandalise or deface statues.
According to Solidarity Deputy Head Johan Kruger, it comes as no surprise that Malema is not obeying the court order. “We will use all legal measures at our disposal to ensure that Malema and the EFF comply with the court order,” Kruger said.
