COSATU condemns leak of confidential NUMSA letter

Federation says such an action is extremely unhelpful given efforts to bring hostilities to an end

COSATU condemns Sowetan leak

The Congress of South African Trade Unions strongly condemns whoever was responsible for leaking a confidential letter from NUMSA to COSATU to the Sowetan newspaper, the content of which was revealed in an article by George Matlala on 10 June 2014.

Such action, at a time when every effort is being made to bring about a cessation of hostilities within COSATU, and to help the ANC task team to succeed in uniting the federation, it is extremely unhelpful.

Quite clearly whoever leaked this letter is not happy that the federation is going through a process of confronting its internal difficulties. The leaking of the letter is designed to undermine this process. We call upon all our leadership and members to abide by the decision to engage with each other through official internal channels and not publicly through the media.

Statement issued by Patrick Craven, COSATU national spokesperson, June 10 2014
