DA governments show commitment to safety, while Cele still falters

16 August 2022

Today’s opening of the Joint Operation Centre (JOC) in Mossel Bay confirms DA-run governments’ commitment to making communities safer in the Western Cape.

The JOC serves as an epicenter where partnerships between fire and rescue, SAPS, neighbourhood watches, and other role players are leveraged to ensure an effective community safety network that is equipped with innovative and state of the art resources to fight crime.

The DA in the Western Cape applauds DA-run governments, such as the Mossel Bay Municipality and the Western Cape Government for delivering viable and innovative solutions to the issue of crime.

While the South African Police Service continues to be under-resourced in the Western Cape, these efforts to bolstering community safety are desperately needed. These efforts are also testament to the Western Cape’s aptitude for running an effective police service, and we therefore reaffirm our call for the devolution of SAPS to the Western Cape.
