Department of Public Enterprises enriching only black elite
"The department of public enterprises is now being transformed into an enterprise for black enrichment. The minister brags about black economic empowerment (BEE) of public enterprises and it is now clear that it is now becoming ‘Black Elite Enrichment Enterprises'. Furthermore, poor planning and management - such as that at Eskom leads to the discomfort of taxpayers," Mr. Pieter Groenewald, the Freedom Front Plus' spokesperson on public enterprises says.
Mr. Groenewald, in the budget debate of this department told minister Gigaba that he was standing in Parliament and talking about money and his budget in terms of billions of rand and not millions of rand as if he was suffering from megalomania.
"It is tax money being discussed here. It sounds as if you are suffering from megalomania which could lead to arrogance. In the process the department has become a vehicle to enrich black elites and cadres. That is why the minister remarked that he wouldn't apologise for cadre deployment.
"Transnet is an example of where the department had not bothered to listen to an instruction of Parliament to supplement the pension funds for its workers.
"It has lead to Adv. Anton Alberts of the Freedom Front Plus, having to drive through the country to find a solution for the pensioners' problems. The chief executive officer of Transnet had a remuneration package of R16,88 million but pensioners have to live in misery. That is why the FF Plus' Adv. Anton Alberts had gone to the trouble and there is a court case now.
