Gauteng clinics, hospital run short of diesel - Jack Bloom

DA MP says Infrastructure Development Dept responsible for not paying suppliers

DIESEL NON-PAYMENT HITS GAUTENG HOSPITALS AND CLINICS

New Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu must urgently ensure that diesel suppliers are paid as hospitals and clinics are short of diesel for generators in case of power failure.

For instance, the Dobsonville, Chiawelo and Tshepisong provincial clinics in Soweto are all without diesel.

Dobsonville clinic is the worst off, as it is currently running on very limited electricity and expectant mothers are told to go elsewhere.

Caesarean sections at the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital have been delayed because instruments cannot be sterilised without diesel for the boilers.

The irony is that the Infrastructure Development Department formerly headed by Qedani is at fault for not paying diesel suppliers.

Why is it so complicated to pay diesel suppliers on time?

These payments should all be done at hospital level, rather than by a separate dysfunctional department.
