How can the public be expected to trust Robert McBride? - Pieter Groenewald

FF+ MP says the IPID head should have an irreproachable character, should not be a controversial person

Mthethwa violating public's trust with McBride appointment

"The intention of the Minister of Police, Mr. Nathi Mthethwa, to appoint Robert McBride, the former suspended chief of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police, as chief of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), makes a farce and mockery of the ministers comments that he will eradicate corruption in the Police," Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the chief spokesperson on Police for the Freedom Front Plus says.

"IPID investigates corruption in the Police and the head of this institution should not be a controversial person and should have an irreproachable character. McBride is extremely controversial and definitely not suitable for the position. The public should be able to trust the head of the IPID because a lot of complaints are against the SAPS. The Ekurhuleni Metro Council did not even trust McBride and suspended him. How can it be expected of the public to have any trust in him? With this appointment, Mthethwa is violating the public's trust and it is very clear that McBride's appointment is once again cadre deployment by the ANC," Groenewald said.
