EFF statement on the appointment of Jackson Mthembu as Parliamentary Chief Whip

The EFF notes the appointment of Jackson Mthembu as the Ruling Party's Parliamentary Chief Whip. The position of Chief Whip of the Majority Party in Parliament is very important because whoever is Chief Whip should constantly build consensus on programming of parliament and on many other issues that require common approach and consensus.

The EFF wishes Jackson Mthembu well and hope that he will be able to concede to superior logic during debates and deliberations on parliamentary process and encourage him to not bulldoze illegal and partisan positions that cannot stand the test of law. Despite his other weaknesses, Jackson Mthembu is politically senior enough to provide political guidance to most of the ANC's wayward Members of Parliament and the Executive.

We encourage Mr. Mthembu to use his political seniority to provide mature guidance and sound leadership so that Parliament plays the necessary oversight and law making role without fear or favour.
