NUM disappointed by the Chamber of Mines
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is disappointed by the Chamber of Mines' decision not to up the offers or to commit to further negotiations. Instead the Chamber of Mines argued for an opportunity to weigh its own options of restructuring and taking the legal route.
The NUM warns the Chamber of Mines that dismissals would not be a solution to the current challenges facing the industry and that it would only serve to fuel emotions that are already high and inflame the situation further.
The threat of restructuring would also be problematic for the country's rising unemployment whilst the notion of being legalistic in approach may have disastrous consequences.
The National Union of Mineworkers urges the industry to return back to the negotiation table as negotiation remains the most powerful weapon of all.
