WRITTEN REPLY TO PARLIAMENTARY QUESTIONS

The Parliamentary questions below have been considered and the proposed reply thereto, is presented for your consideration and approval.

QUESTION 10

1) "Whether any conventional arms have been exported Libya since 1 January 2000; if so; in each specific case, (a) what was type, (b)quantity and (c) total value of the conventional arms weapons exported;"

REPLY

The total number of Export Permits authorised and issued since 2000 to date:

The NCACC Act 2002 (Act 41 of 2002) was assented to on 12 Feb 2003.

Prior to 2003, there was no legislative requirement to report to either Cabinet or Parliament. Furthermore, arms exports legislation prior to 2003 was administered in terms of Article 4C of the Armscor Act of 1968. All NCACC Annual Reports from 2003 - 2009 have been duly submitted by the NCACC to Parliament.

I wish to refer the Member to the NCACC Annual Reports which contain all the information relating to this question. The Member will realize that various kinds of equipment was approved by the NCACC including, amongst others,

- Parachute, personnel MK6
- Various ammunition
- Night vision equipment
- Laser range finders
- Short guns, 12 guage
- Infantry combat vehicle, etc, etc
